Plan your MS in Health Informatics

Use this simulator to lay out the courses you will take in each term until you graduate. It checks your plan against the program rules as you go, then gives you a roadmap to print and discuss with your academic advisor.

  1. Tell us about you. Choose your program version and the term you start planning from.
  2. Mark courses you have already completed, if any.
  3. Build your plan. Place courses into terms by dragging them, or click a course to pick a term. The tracker shows what you still need.
  4. Print your roadmap and take it to your advisor.

What the degree requires

  • 33 to 36 credits in total. Most courses are 3 credits; some are 4.
  • Three core courses: HINF 5101 Introduction to Health Informatics; HINF 5105 The American Healthcare System (Boston and Online) or HINF 5106 The Canadian Healthcare System (Vancouver); and HINF 7701 Capstone.
  • Two courses from each of four pools: Business Management, Technical, Health Informatics, and General Electives.
  • A grade of B– or higher in every course and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.000.

Nothing is saved. Your plan exists only in this browser tab. Logging out, closing the tab or refreshing the page erases it, so print or save it as a PDF before you leave.

This is a planning aid, not registration. Future terms are projected from past schedules and faculty updates and can change. Your advisor has the final word on your plan of study.

1. About you

Printed at the top of your roadmap. It is not stored or sent anywhere.
Program version Pick the version you were admitted to. It sets your healthcare-systems course and which class formats you can take. Not sure? Check your admission letter or Student Hub record, or ask your advisor. Students admitted to a concentration (Personal Health Informatics, Health Informatics Analytics) or the MPH/MS have different requirements and should not use this simulator.
The first term you want on your plan, usually the next term you will register for. Plans begin in Spring or Fall; summer terms appear in your plan as optional.
Count each term (including summer) in which you completed at least one course in this program. New students enter 0. This matters because the capstone, HINF 7701, can only be taken after at least three semesters of graduate study.

2. Courses you have already taken

Tick every course you have already finished with a grade of B– or higher, and any transfer credit the program has approved (for example, BCIT DIGH 7000 transfers as HINF 5101). Ticked courses count toward your credits and requirements, and satisfy prerequisites. If you are a new student, leave everything blank.

Other prerequisite coursework lists courses from outside this program that satisfy a prerequisite here (for example, MATH 5010 for PHTH 6210). Tick them only if you have completed them; they do not count toward your degree credits.

You can come back and change any of this later with Edit setup.
